The objective of fire prevention is to educate the community about measures they can take to avert potential fire hazards and to prepare for survival in case of such incidents. Our primary aim is to safeguard lives and property. Fire prevention serves as a proactive approach to forestalling fire emergencies or mitigating their impact. Currently, the Elm Valley Joint Fire District employs three state-certified fire safety inspectors.

The fire prevention office of EVFD conducts annual fire inspections at businesses and public establishments within the district. Duties include enforcing the Ohio Fire Code concerning new commercial constructions, renovations of existing businesses, changes in business usage within structures, and annual fire inspections of commercial properties.

Village of Ashley as well as Oxford Township bussinesses must contact Delaware County Code Compliance  prior to any new contruction or remodeling to obtain any required permits and to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy.

Westfield and Peru Township bussinesses as well as new commercial construction will be refered to the State to obtain any needed permits and a Certificate of Occupancy.
